3 TIPS FOR BUYING GORGEOUS PERSONALIZED JEWELRY

Jewelry is nothing if not a unique and extremely personal expression of its wearer. Think of the options: your personal monogram, monogram of a loved one (personally, I wear my daughter's monogram on THIS necklace pretty much year-round!), birthstones, single letter necklaces...and the list goes on!

Most of my custom work and quite a few of the items in my Shop are personalized to each customer's unique tastes and style. So I thought I'd round up the top 3 tips when it comes to selecting jewelry, so when you get ready to to invest you'll be armed with all the facts!

Whether it's a best friend's necklace, a "push gift", a personalized Mother's Day necklace, a classic Signet Ring, or a birthstone ring - personalized jewelry offers something completely unique that honestly, you can't find anywhere else!

Meaning, unlike so much of the 'fast fashion' out there, you won't be walking down the street seeing your jewelry on anyone else! We are individuals, after all, and personalized jewelry celebrates that very quality.

This for me is always #1. If the piece isn't high quality, it won't last and that's wasted money (and wasted excitement on a sub-par piece of jewelry!).

I'm a big fan of fewer, better things in general. And the adage "you get what you pay for" couldn't be more true when it comes to jewelry! If you're going to invest in personalized jewelry, make sure it's make out of QUALITY materials that will truly stand the test of time!

Here's why: jewelry is small and dainty, by nature. So the better quality the materials are the longer you'll have it and the more worthwhile your investment becomes!

A couple of important things to consider:

  • If your budget allows, invest in a solid 14k gold piece (not gold filled or plated) so that you can wear it everyday and treat it as the heirloom that it is!
  • Make sure the jewelry has superb craftsmanship which will prevent breakage or obvious defects.
  • Ensure that the piece is made by an expert goldsmith!

Engraving jewelry has literally been around for hundreds of years and there are loads of different techniques, all with different results. For my engraved pieces, I really wanted a deep, beautiful hand-engraving. That way each piece has a completely unique engraving! My Large Round Signet Ring is a perfect example. Each monogram is hand engraved with flowing, beautiful lines that flicker in the sun.

What to look for:

  • The engraving is proportional to the size of the piece.
  • The engraving is deep enough to really make the monogram pop!
  • You have the option for any type of custom engraving or monogram, giving you complete freedom to express yourself!

One of the best aspects of Personalized Jewelry is celebrating the birthday of a loved one with birthstones! Whether it's a new baby, a family member, beloved friend, an anniversary or for yourself there's really nothing sweeter than selecting a gorgeous birthstone.

Here's what you should look for:

  • Birthstones that are high quality and really pop in their setting!
  • Options to select any of the 12 birthstones for a given style.
  • Use of natural, untreated gemstones that are free from inclusions and flaws. (This is a big one for me, all natural = pure lasting beauty!)

Two of my best sellers for personalized gemstones are the Jolie Ring and the Arrowhead Rings.
